For the past two years I have been able to take part in the craziness that is NaNoWriMo. I've become convinced that there is absolutely nothing else like it, and much like my 30 day portrait challenge, it never fails to make me grow in ways I had not anticipated. I learn things about myself, my limits, and most important, just how far I can push the boundaries of my creativity. It is madness, during one of the busiest months of the year for most people. But somehow, that makes it even more fun.
Your goal? To write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. The challenge starts on November 1st, and ends on November 30th. It sounds crazy, maybe even impossible. But it is also so rewarding and is just an amazing experience. If you have ever dreamed of writing a book, I suggest starting with this. It is a mad rush to get the words out, but that is the best part. You don't have time to think or time to analyze. It makes your final product extremely real and organic, and it keeps you from getting in the way of the creation process. And even if you end up not completing the goal... you still learned something, and have more story written than you otherwise would have.
If you want to keep tabs on how I am doing, or if you are doing NaNoWriMo and want to be my writing buddy, go check out my profile! (As an aside... I know the NaNoWriMo site was recently redone so the writing buddies feature is not yet online... if you want to be my buddy, leave me a comment below with a link to your profile and I will go find you once it is enabled!)
